JFK Scholarship Banquet

This banquet honored the 2026 MCDW JFK Scholarship winners, Italia Coke and Mya Western, and featured keynote speaker Violet Edwards, a powerful communicator, who is currently serving on the Madison County Commission, having been first elected in 2020. She is the first Black woman ever to serve on the commission and has worked tirelessly both in her government position and as a volunteer on numerous boards to improve people's lives. She is currently running for Alabama State Auditor.

A social hour preceded the event, with jazz guitarist Jim Cavender, and appetizers with charcuterie boards. A dinner buffet by K’ala Makes it Special was served. The two scholarship winners read their essays, and Commissioner Violet Edwards delivered her keynote address.

It was a fun night of celebration and fellowship.
