Ellis, author of "Physicians for the People: Black Doctors and the Struggle for Health-Care Equality in Alabama 1870-1970," a new book recently released by the University of Alabama Press. Jack is professor emeritus of history, The University of Alabama in Huntsville. He is the author of four books, including "Beside the Troubled Waters: A Black Doctor Remembers Life, Medicine, and Civil Rights in an Alabama Town," coauthored with Dr. Sonnie W. Hereford III. Health equity is such an important topic today in Alabama, and it always has been.
